Phnom Penh, March 27, 2024 - In a significant move towards gaining membership in the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Cambodia is rallying support from 75 countries to join the Kun Khmer International Federation (KIF). The initiative aims to showcase Kun Khmer, or Khmer martial arts, on a global platform.

Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), revealed that the KIF currently boasts 54 member countries. The push for expanding its membership is part of Cambodia's strategy to bolster its international presence and reputation, with the ultimate goal of introducing the traditional martial art form to the world stage.

The campaign calls for a united effort to ensure the sustainable preservation of Kun Khmer, emphasizing the martial art's cultural significance and heritage. As part of these efforts, KIF is set to establish a code of ethics to enhance the management of Kun Khmer among its member countries, thereby fostering confidence in more nations to join the federation.

This endeavor not only marks Cambodia's commitment to promoting its rich martial arts tradition but also signifies a strategic step towards achieving recognition from the IOC.
